In the Shadows

Some people like to have missionary sex under the covers with the lights off. They aren’t confident in their body or perhaps not particularly interested in their partner’s body. For me, the visual aspect of sex is important. I do not masturbate without porn. I made a large art piece for my bedroom with several mirrors on it so I could watch myself getting railed. I don’t want to have sex in the dark.

However, sex in broad daylight is not the pinnacle either. I’m never going to complain about it. It won’t even cross my mind that I want a little less light. But when I do happen to be in that sweet spot… more than a drop, less than a wave… just a splash of light painting our silhouettes… I’m reminded of how it’s my favorite.

Shade covering the neck, accentuating the jawline of a lit face. Shadows caressing the underside of the breasts of men and women alike. Pools of darkness resting in divots above the collarbones. The lines of abs being pronounced. The lines of the triceps. The lines of a strong back. With just the right amount of light all of the muscles seem more defined. More eager to be grabbed and bit. More poised, like a lion crouched in preparation while I’m the antelope to be lunged upon.

Something about the shadows make the body look more carnal.

Perhaps it’s evolutionary. Perhaps we were meant to fornicate at the end of a long day, when it was too dark to hunt or gather, with nothing more than a flickering fire to light us. We were meant to use the orgasms as sleeping aids in the days before comfortable beds and warm blankets. 

Perhaps the moon controls us like the tides and makes us ravenous for each other. Maybe a dimly lit room reminds us of our ancestors under a full moon.

Or perhaps these feelings are mine alone. Perhaps I’m just really horny.
